About Me

Shane Price

Aspiring writer and podcaster, longtime sports enthusiast, and movie quote savant

Ever since I was a kid, I had a passion for writing. I can remember writing stories and my imagination has never slowed down since then. I also developed a passion for sports at a young age. I spent many days playing football or basketball with the other kids in our neighborhood, and then I played high school football for a very prestigious program in Alabama.

Over the years, I’ve become a huge fan of any team from my alma mater (West Virginia University), along with the Green Bay Packers, Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Mets. I even own a share of stock in the Packers.

I think I always knew that I wanted to have a job that would put me around sports, and deep down I probably always wanted to put my passion for writing to use. That’s why I don’t think it’s any secret why I hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in sports communication from the Reed College of Media at WVU. I also have a master’s degree from the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at WVU.

I have a passion for movies, too, which is why every blog post that I publish usually has a “movie quote of the day.” When it comes to authors, I love the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, Tom Clancy, Andy Weir, and Michael Connelly.

Oddly enough, neither of those degrees have helped me out much in my career. In fact, I’m not currently in either the journalism or sports field, but I do work in digital media in Texas. That’s why I have this blog as my outlet to get my thoughts and opinions in sports, and to eventually fulfill my desire to write some fiction works.

About the blog

After a lot of encouragement from family members, I finally relented and started this blog in the spring of 2015. I can still vividly remember suffering from senioritis as an undergraduate student and creating it on WordPress in the lower level computer lab of WVU’s downtown campus library. I decided on WordPress because I had experience using it that semester through my journalism capstone class.

I had zero expectations when I started this blog, but I quickly fell in love with it. Originally, it was exclusively a sports blog, but I’m starting to branch out and write some fiction. I’ve managed to keep up with it despite it sometimes being a nuisance, particularly during football season. I can give you several different, strange locations of where I’ve put the finishing touches on a post or wrote the entire post because I procrastinated – ranging from an airport terminal or the bar at a restaurant.

Now, I wouldn’t recommend going back to the very beginning of my blog because I like to think that I’ve developed a lot as a writer. Although, I’m willing to show some of my milestones:

  • Chasing Gretzky: Celebrating blog post No. 800

Movie quote of the day: “Thats why no-one will remember your name.” – Achilles, “Troy” (2004) Well, the blog has reached another milestone as this is my 800th post. I’ve been writing on this blog pretty much all week while on vacation, much to the chagrin of my family. The blog doesn’t stop, though, especially…

  • Eclipsing Hank: Blog post No. 756

Movie quote of the day: “One step at a time. One punch at a time. One round at a time.” – Rocky Balboa, “Creed” (2015) Ever since I felt obligated to do something special for my 300th blog post back on Nov. 30, 2018, I’ve compared my posts to home runs. Well, the time has…

  • Chasing Hank: Celebrating blog post No. 700

Movie quote of the day: “A man becomes a critic when he cannot be an artist, the same way that a man becomes an informer when he cannot be a soldier.” – Mike Shiner, “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” (2014) I’ve often compared my blog posts to home runs, and just like what…
